DISALVO INTERIORS FINDS NEW WAYS TO
GIVE BACK
Mother-daughter team lights the way for charitable and community involvement with new and creative forms of giving
LONG ISLAND, NY (June 2007)-- diSalvo Interiors , Long Island's family-owned interior design studio, has firmly rooted its reputation among the business community as one of the most charitable family-run businesses in the Northeast. This year, however, the diSalvo's are finding new ways to give back. Expanding their reach beyond traditional forms of philanthropy such as donating profit percentages, diSalvo is throwing children's parties in hospitals, marching in the AIDS walk, working with staff to "go green," and donating their time and services to hospice centers and community foundations. This commitment has quickly earned the firm a new status among the Long Island business and social community, and was the driving force behind co-founder Rosemarie diSalvo's Top Business Woman of the Year Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).
Here is a taste of some of diSalvo's charitable highlights. Photos are available upon request:
Luau at Winthrop Pediatric Center
On the evening of May 17, diSalvo Interiors could not be found examining fabric samples or reviewing architectural plans. Instead, they were at the Winthrop Pediatric Center, throwing a luau-themed party organized for the Winthrop University Hospital. With face-painting, ice cream, goodie bags and pineapple-ham pizza, the families of the children were also invited to join in the festivities. Like any good interior design firm, the diSalvos worked hard to ensure no detail was left to chance: the party featured Hawaiian music as well as hibiscus-themed plates and flatware for a truly tropical experience. Children were also given goodie bags filled with stickers, notebooks, pencils, rulers, coloring books and sudoku puzzles. "It was such a treasure to see the children forget their illnesses and enjoy being kids. They made messes with ice cream and had their faces painted. We had never felt so good or had so much fun," says Louise Camellerie, one of diSalvo's staff. Always inviting the rest of the community to share in their charitable endeavors, diSalvo rallied NY Party Arts, Garden City Pizza and Kings Supermarket to donate their services and share in the festivities.
Hospice House:
In conjunction with an extraordinary group of vendors and sponsors such as Kravet, Century Furniture and the Wallpaper's Guild, diSalvo interiors is again at the forefront of community involvement with their pro bono project, Hospice House . Since last fall, diSalvo Interiors has been committed to the center's ongoing focus to improve public spaces and patient rooms within hospice facilities.
diSalvo Goes Green in Garden City
Always with an eye on the environment, the diSalvos are leading the way in helping Garden City go green. In the last few months, they began using recycled paper products, installed ceiling fans, changed all light bulbs to energy-efficient fluorescents, implemented recycling programs with the town of Garden City and arranged energy audits with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to help conserve valuable resources.
Community Foundations and Organizations
Other community and charitable involvement includes an exclusive program in conjunction with the Garden City Senior Center, donating all showroom fabric samples to their quilting program; a unique partnership with the Caumsett Foundation through Mansions & Millionaires designer showcase to support and enhance Caumsett State Historic Park, for which they designed a bedroom and donated custom window treatments; and participation in Aids Walk New York, working to raise money for the organization's goal in fighting the growing epidemic.
